Perhaps it was due to the fact that there were not many hotel selections in Kamloops, so those of us on the Rocky Mountaineer Silverleaf package did not have a choice of hotel at this small town. The Thompson Hotel was the allocated hotel for us.

Well-Coordinataed Check-In

Our room keys were distributed to us in an envelope beforehand on the train, so all we needed to do was to go straight to our allocated rooms.

Check-out was simply a case of returning our room keys to the hotel reception, so everything was a breeze for us.

Basic Spacious Room

Everything was very basic here, not that we were expecting something very much more. The room was at least very spacious and clean and we were quite happy with it.

The charming view of the town of Kamloops from the window in our room.

We also found our luggage which had travelled separately from us from Vancouver already waiting for us in the room, so that’s a thumbs-up for The Thompson Hotel and the team from the Rocky Mountaineer.

The bathroom was a little small compared to the size of the rest of the room, but it was clean and comes with all the amenities and toiletries we needed.

A welcome note from the Rocky Mountaineer (sorry for the blur photo) and a choice of pillows from the hotel.

The Amenities

We did not have much time to make use of the facilities in The Thompson Hotel because we stayed for only a night – but we would have loved to make use of these facilities if we had the time.

The indoor pool and jacuzzi.

The 24-hrs games room.

The business centre and the coffee and tea provided at the common areas.

There are in-house dining options at The Thompson Hotel in the form of Blue Dining and Lounge and Vittorio’s Downtown.

Great Location

The location of The Thompson Hotel was great  –  it was located within downtown Kamloops – which means great accessibility to shops and restaurants.

The hotel is also a 10-minute walk to the Riverside Park, a highly recommended place to visit before sunset. We needed to cross this pedestrian bridge to get to the Riverside Park.  It offered a great view of the railway tracks which reminded us of Kamloops’ status as a transportation hub.

The Riverside Park.

The most scenic and serene place in Kamloops is at its Riverside Park, which is also the best place to watch wildlife and the sunset.

Don’t miss out on these horses by the Riverside.  They are free for petting and photo-taking!

The Sandman Signature Kamloops Hotel near the Riverside Park looked like an up-class outfit and was where those folks on the Goldclass packages were sent to.
