Because of limited seats on the bus, it is recommended to purchase round trip tickets.  At the same booth, you can opt to buy a Sun Moon Lake pass which is a package consisting of:

  • Round trip bus tickets from Taichung to Sun Moon Lake
  • Ferry tickets for the lake
  • Scenic cable car ride on the Ropeway (cable car) to Nine Aborigines Cultural Centre
  • One day pass for the round-the-lake bus.  The round-the-lake bus is most useful if you plan on visiting other attractions around the perimeter of the lake, such as the Wenwu Temple (文武庙) and the Ci-en Pagoda (慈恩塔).
  • Shuishe-Xiangshan bus (one way)
  • 15% discount voucher for bicycle rental at the listed shops and discount vouchers for selected F&B shops.

This same bus passes through Taichung Gancheng Station and Taichung Railway Station before it reaches the Taichung HSR Station.  You may wish to purchase tickets and board at these stops if it is more convenient for you.

Step 4:  Visit Sun Moon Lake

The bus will drop you directly at the Sun Moon Lake Boat Ticket office.  From there, you can follow the signages and make your way directly to Shuishe Pier (水社碼頭) to take the ferry across the lake to Ito Thao Pier where the Ropeway and the Ito Thao Shopping Street is.

If, however, you are looking to hire bicycles for a hike, the walk towards Shuishe Pier is one of the best points to do so.  If you have not purchased a Sun Moon Lake pass, then you will need to purchase ferry tickets from one of the operators at Shuishe Pier.
