Myowa Japanese Sweet Cafe (和茗甘味處) – A Great Place for Matcha Delights in Taipei

Myowa has got more than 40 matcha items on their menu, including hotplates, cakes, ice-cream, desserts and hot and cold beverages. The menu is so good that we had a hard time deciding what to eat. This is truly a heaven on earth for matcha lovers! If you are just following a matcha lover to this cafe, there’s no need to fret. There’s always other non-matcha products for you to try as well.

What to eat at Myowa Japanese Sweet Cafe

Matcha Cake Hotplate

The number 1 selling dessert at Myowa has got to be their sizzling Matcha Cake Hotplate. This is a dessert so original, you probably will never see it anywhere else. It is the most instagram-worthy dessert, so get your mobile phones ready once it is served.

A slice of matcha cake lies in the center of the hotplate, topped with matcha ice-cream. At the side is a small pitcher of matcha sauce which the server will pour into the hotplate. The moment the sauce comes into contact with the hotplate, it sizzles and boils and the sweet aroma of matcha floats up. It tastes as good as it looks, so no disappointment there! The sizzling Matcha Cake Hotplate costs NT240 (about SGD$10.60) at the time of writing, and is large enough to serve two. For those who will like to try something other than Matcha, there is a variant of this hotplate called Hojicha Cake Hotplate at the same price.

Matcha Lava Cake

The next best thing to try at Myowa is their Matcha Lava Cake. Watch steaming hot matcha lava flow out of the confectionery once you poke it with a fork. This dessert comes with a scoop of matcha ice-cream on the side so you’ll have a taste of fire and ice on the same plate. This costs the same as the Matcha Cake Hotplate, so we’ll definitely recommend the hotplate over this one if you have to choose only one of them.

Matcha Sundae

There are many great dessert sets at Myowa, but for those who will like to have a simple pick, it will be this one – the Matcha Sundae. At NT160 (about SGD$7.00), this cup of sundae not only looks good, it also packs a whole lot of ingredients in it. Nuts, matcha mousse, cornflakes, a buttery wafer and a stick of very good mochi is topped by matcha soft serve ice-cream. All ingredients all work together to complement each other perfectly, making this the perfect matcha dessert.  Scroll through the gallery to see more.
