1. Visit the National Palace Museum (故宫博物院)
The National Palace Museum is considered one of the best museums in the world. Housing massive collections of imperial artifacts and paintings from the various Chinese Dynasties spanning a period of 8000 years, the National Palace Museum can easily take you an entire day to explore fully. The most famous exhibit here is the Jadite Cabbage, an extremely intricate piece of jade carving which one can see the details of only under a magnifying glass. Visitors need to queue up to view this piece of wonder. The National Palace Museum itself is also one of the most significant architectural landmarks in Taiwan. Visit as soon as it opens or be prepared to jostle with lots of visitors.
How to get to National Palace Museum:
Take the Tamsui-Xinyi Line (淡水信儀線) (RED LINE) towards Tamshui (淡水) to the Shilin Station and take bus R30 (Red 30) to the National Palace Museum.

2. Make a trip up the mountain to Maokong (貓空)
Maokong is Taipei’s best kept secret, and a quick get-away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Take an exhilarating ride on the glass-bottomed gondola up to Maokong as you watch your altitude climb. The gondola ride up to Maokong is one of the most scenic in Taipei and also one of the best locations in Taipei to see the iconic Taipei 101. At Maokong, you can take one of the many walking trails to the tea plantations, or, find an open air tea house for a relaxing meal.
How to get to Maokong (貓空):
From the Taipei Metro System, take the Wenhu line (文胡線) (Brown Line) to its terminal stop at Taipei Zoo. Exit to street level and begin a 4-5 minutes walk to Maokong Gondola Station. There is no need to queue for tickets for your gondola ride up to Maokong if you posses an EasyCard (悠遊卡) – the same card that is used at the Taipei Metro System and other public transport systems.

4. Go for a scenic stroll along Danshui (淡水)
Danshui is one romantic place for couples. This little seaside town is easily accessible by the Taipei Metro System. There’s also the bustling Danshui Old Street which sells lots of wonderful street food. While you are there, check out our list of best things to eat at Danshui Old Street. At Danshui, take also a scenic ferry ride that will bring you to Lover’s Bridge. Time this to happen at sunset and you have the perfect romantic getaway. Or, if you are looking for something more exotic, take horse-riding lessons and watch the sunset on horseback at Danshui beach with your loved one.
How to get to Danshui (淡水):
Take the Tamsui-Xinyi Line (淡水信儀線) (RED LINE) to its terminal end at Danshui (淡水). Once you exit from the metro station, you’ll see the waterfront and Danshui Old Street (淡水老街).

9. Indulge in gastronomic delights at Yongkang Street (永康街)
I can easily spend an entire day at Yongkang Street and be delighted by the range of great restaurants and cafes there. There’s the original store of Din Tai Fung (鼎泰豐), famous for their Xiao Long Bao (soup dumplings). Walk a few more steps and try the best mango shaved ice dessert at Smoothie House. And yet, if you want more, there’s Myowa Cafe down the road which specializes in matcha desserts and beverages.
10. Spend a creative afternoon at Huashan 1914 Creative Park (華山1914文化創意產業園區)
Huashan 1914 Creative Park is an off-the beaten track location where few tourists know about. There are many hippy cafes and nice creative activities around the park. Visit the Wooderful Life Flagship store at Huashan Creative Park or spend a lazy afternoon in one of the many great cafes in the park.
