Bonanza Gel Masks are our top recommended skincare product to buy in Taiwan

These Gel Masks are a staple for Taiwanese girls and one beauty product that Taiwanese girls swear by.  They come in at least 7 different kinds of varieties and two sizes.  The ones that we highly recommend are:

  • Bonanza Zymo-excitative Membrane KFM (blue) – whitening and deep cleansing
  • Bonanza Active-Moisture Membraneous KUM (purple) – hydration and tightening of pores, deep cleansing

Where to buy Bonanza Gel Masks

At Cosmed (康是美), Little Three (小三美日), 86 shop (86 小舖) and Paris Strawberry (巴黎草莓).  Bonanza is currently not available in Singapore, although its competitor Annie’s Way is available at SASA and selected Watsons Stores.

2. Facial Sheet Masks – Best Range of Skincare Products to Buy in Taiwan

Skincare Products to Buy in Taiwan - Sheet Masks
Sheet masks are hygienic and convenient to use. In Taiwan, there is a huge array of sheet masks to choose from

In contrast to Korean sheet masks, Taiwanese sheet masks are incredibly thin and silky which makes them more effective in adhering to the facial contour and delivering their content to the deeper layers of the skin.  These are the Taiwan sheet masks you should look out for:

My Beauty Diary (我的美麗日記)

My Beauty Diary is available in many countries, but it is at their country of origin where they are at their cheapest.  There are so many types which can make it confusing to make a choice.  The ones most suited for Singapore’s climate are the Black Pearl EX series (which is a new and premium line) and the Imperial Bird’s Nest masks.

The Black Pearl EX and Imperial Birds Nest Series from My Beauty Diary are highly recommended

My Scheming (我的心機)

A local once recommend My Scheming over My Beauty Diary masks and I have to agree after using them.  My Scheming masks are thinner and silkier making the masking experience a lot better.  Look out for the Vitamin Series which are the best.

The Honey Vitamin B, Honey Vitamin C and Aloe Vera Vitamin E masks are among my favorite. The L Ascorbic Acid masks are also great for an instant glow

Sexy Look

A perennial favorite with everyone, these black masks contain activated charcoal which cleanses and detoxifies the skin while delivering essential nutrients to the deeper layers.  Try the new Enzyme series and the Aqua Series which are a more premium line.

Lovemore

Lovemore masks have earned a place in my daily skincare regime.  The most outstanding one is the Wine Yeast Mask which is better and loads cheaper than a certain premium Japanese skincare brand using the same active ingredient.

Mirae

A new discovery of mine, Mirae masks are actually very established in Taiwan.  Their masks are ultra-thin, making it possible to complete the masking step within 8 minutes.  Perfect for a working day.

3.  L’Herbaflore Skincare Products

The star product from L’Herbaflore is their Hyaluronic Acid Moisture Energy Biocellulose Mask which can be said to be the best in the biocellulose mask category.  However, these biocellulose masks are fairly expensive at NT250 (about SGS$11) per piece.   Other than the biocellulose masks, L’Herbaflore also has a great range of facial sheet masks to choose from.  The other key product from this skincare line is their butterfly-shaped eye masks which works on lifting the extended areas around the eyes.  And yet, L’Herbaflore is not just about masks!  They also have a range of cleansers, toners, moisturizers and creams that works to complement the masks range.  L’Herbaflore products tend to be more expensive than the drugstore range, but you can work on negotiating a package price.  We even had the store give us a complimentary facial for two in return for buying a package of biocellulose masks, toner and exfoliator.

Where to buy L’Herbaflore Skincare Products in Taiwan

L’Herbaflore products are available only at their standalone shops.  There is an outlet at Taipei Main Station and at Taipei 101.

4.  Green Bean Powder – Most Affordable Skincare Product to Buy in Taiwan

Green beans are said to have a detoxifying effect on the human body.  Used as an exfoliator for the face, it cleanses the pores thoroughly and leaves it glowing and smooth.  Green bean powder has become a holy grail item in my skincare regime.  I not only use it as an exfoliator, but also as a facial mask.  The refill pack is a steal at only NT49 (about SGD$2.20), making it the cheapest skincare product to buy in Taiwan.

Bottled forms of the Green Bean Powder is available at Cosmed (康是美), and Watsons and both the bottled form and refill pack are available at POYA (寶雅).

5. Dr Wu Skincare Products

Available at many Asian countries, Dr Wu has several award winning series of products.  I personally love the Vitamin C line, but they seem to have discontinued with it.  The Mandelic Acide series and the Hydration series are also great skincare lines to use.

Where to buy Dr Wu products in Taiwan:

An almost complete range of Dr Wu products can be found in the larger drugstores in Taiwan – Cosmed  (康是美) and Watsons.  They are also available sometimes at Little Three (小三美日), 86 shop (86 小舖), Paris Strawberry (巴黎草莓), Ri Yao Ben Pu (日藥本舖) and SASA, although the range may not be complete at each of these stores.

6. Dr Douxi Skincare Products – Exclusive Skincare Products to Buy in Taiwan

A Taiwanese brand that is not available in other countries, the Dr Douxi range of products focuses on harvesting the goodness of egg whites into a tub.  The cult favourite has to be their Xin Ni Sung Egg Shell Revital and Lifting Veil.  Prolonged use is said to shrink pores and create a tightening and lifting effect.  Beyond the egg series, I’ve tried their range of volcanic mud masks and they are very good as well.  Dr Douxi has recently ventured into opening specialty stores of their own and offering product packages, so its worth taking a look at their stores.

One of the best skincare products to buy in Taiwan, For Beloved One is a reputable skincare line, with the bio-cellulose series of masks as their star product.  If you are looking for a biocellulose mask which is more effective in delivering nutrients deeper into the skin, For Beloved One and L’Herboflore are really the only 2 options to look at.

10. Korean and Japanese Skincare Products

Korean skincare products are cheap in Taiwan.  In addition, during our recent trip, we found that Japanese skincare products have also made an influx into the country. Taiwan is now one of the best places outside of Korea and Japan to buy their skincare products.

Where to buy Korean and Japanese skincare products in Taiwan

At individual brand name stores, selected Cosmed (康是美), Little Three (小三美日), 86 shop (86 小舖) or Paris Strawberry (巴黎草莓) stores.  POYA (寶雅) also carries some stocks of Korean and Japanese masks for sale in loose forms.  Ri Yao Ben Pu (日藥本舖) is the best place to look for Japanese skincare products.

BONUS – Skincare Accessories and Facial Cleansing Brushes

I can’t help but sneak in a number 11 into this list.  Skincare accessories in the form of cleansing brushes, make-up and cleansing sponges are especially good and cheap in Taiwan.  There are loads to choose from – be sure to stock up on them!

This concludes my list of recommended skincare products in Taiwan.

The Best Places to Buy the Top Skincare Products in Taiwan

Here are the list of beauty stores to look at and our recommendations on each of them:

1. Cosmed (康是美)

Cosmed is the very first shop that I will stop by upon arriving in Taiwan.  This is for the simple reason that they are absolutely well-stocked in the drugstore brands of skincare products.  If you are looking for sheet masks, Cosmed definitely carries a better range than Watsons.  In addition, they now carry the Bonanza range of products as well!  What’s more, you get a 4% tax rebate if you purchase more than NT2000 (about SGS$90).

2.  Watsons

Watsons stores tend to carry more make up and beauty products than Cosmed.  Those who are into make-up will love to browse the range in Watsons. However, their skincare range is not as extensive as Cosmed.  Nevertheless, they do carry some exclusive brands of sheet masks (for e.g. the Tsiao brand of masks) that are not found anywhere else.

3.  POYA (寶雅)

POYA is my go-to store for sheet masks and other skincare products.  They carry not only Taiwanese brands, but also Korean and Japanese sheet masks in loose forms as well.  POYA sometimes have great sales going on for specific brands, so keep your eyes peeled.

4.  Little Three (小三美日), 86 shop (86 小舖) or Paris Strawberry (巴黎草莓)

I used to check out these stores to buy my favorite Bonanza products.  Now that Cosmed stocks Bonanza as well, I have little reason to visit them.  However, they remain as a very good place to purchase the more popular Korean skincare products such as Banila and Neogem.   I once  found products from the brand Too Cool for School selling at a lower price at these stores than at the brand’s own stores.  These 3 stores are also great places to buy skincare and beauty accessories such as make-up and cleaning sponges.

5.  Ri Yao Ben Pu (日藥本舖)

This chain store is a new discovery during our recent trip to Taiwan.  They sell predominately Japanese skincare products, but carry local brands as well.  I found Dr Wu’s products slashed to 50% off.  Of course, if you are into Japanese skincare, this is the best place in Taiwan to look at.
