Craving for some good coffee in Ho Chi Minh city? Then you must visit The Workshop, probably one of the best places for a cuppa in Ho Chi Minh!

The Workshop Coffee is located at 27 Ngô Đức Kế, Bến Nghé, Quận 1, and although it is within the shopping belt, it can be a little challenging to locate because it is nestled at the 4th floor of a motorcycle workshop at the ground level.
Who would know while at the ground level that there’s such a fantastic place at its top floor….
Well, the first thing you will notice when you step into The Workshop is the baristas in their very chic aprons (we were hoping that they would sell the aprons as one of their souvenirs, but no such luck…) at the centre table which was the brew bar, displaying their very specialised skills in coffee brewing.
At this brew bar, there were more than enough beakers, filtration flasks, heating devices and other apparatus to challenge a chemistry lab. Truly, I’ve never seen more sophisticated brewing instruments in any other coffee houses world-wide.
The cafe itself was a place of sophisticated chic, and very unlike the ambience you find at the ground floor. Window seats are rare and difficult to come by, but if you do happen to get one, it’s the perfect place for people watching while enjoying that cuppa.
Star of the Day – The Coffee
Our choice of a hot cuppachino and a iced mocha. This was definitely the best coffee we experienced in Ho Chi Minh city, with the right balance of notes and aroma.
Having come all the way to The Workshop, we just had to try something from the brew bar. My choice was a V60 pour-over.
And that’s my cup of brew being prepared. From counting the beans to checking the temperature of the water – everything was very professional.
The result was a very strong brew of slightly acidic coffee with a fruity flavour – one that perks me up instantly.
For those who would like to bring a taste of The Workshop home, they do sell their beans at the cafe, together with the brewing apparatus.
Fantastic Food besides that Cuppa
You will be pleasantly surprised that although this is predominately a coffee place, the standard of its food is not far from that of its coffee.
My very yummy Carbonara.
Tommy’s Club Sandwich set.
And a chocolate cake to share.
The total bill came to VND 575,000, which was about SGD $35 for two person. Relative expensive in Ho Chi Minh, but reasonable for the high standards of coffee and cozy environment.
Great ambience, great food and coffee. We highly recommend The Workshop.
